Starring a number of well-known actors in the Philippines, it tells the story of the members of the Philippine Baguio Youth Association (PBYA), who take part in a school protest for more resources and better facilities in the then-remote region of Baguio, from November 2 to 15, 1970. It was released in theaters on October 6, 2002.
On its initial release, the film attracted much public attention and was a commercial success. It was nominated for the best film, best director, and best editing awards at the 17th FAMAS Awards and won the FAMAS Awards for best production design, best art direction, and best cinematography. This earned the film an entry into the 2002 Metro Manila Film Festival, where it won the audience award. Despite the film's commercial success, critical reception for it was mixed, with some critics calling it a mere rehash of the original novel. It was lauded, however, for its cinematography.
Premise
In 1969, the Philippine Baguio Youth Association (PBYA) – a group of students from different schools in the region – joins the protest of the residents of Baguio against the construction of a road in Baguio, because it will eventually destroy the Baguio Central School and force them to attend classes in the more remote high school in Baguio City. The protest, with the aid of popular newscaster Angel Cabales and the then-vice president of the province of Benguet, Francisco Tolentino, eventually ends up in the murder of the then-Baguio City mayor, Anthony Casas.
